Amrita Sher-Gil
Born in Budapest to a Punjabi Sikh father and a Hungarian mother, she trained in Paris and in 1933 became the youngest associate of the Paris Salon. She moved to India in 1934 to paint the lives of ordinary Indians, and died in Lahore in 1941, aged 28. India later declared her work a National Art Treasure.
