Canaletto (Giovanni Antonio Canal)

A Venetian painter of city views, or vedute, of Venice, Rome and London, and a skilled etcher. He was highly successful in England, where he worked from 1746 to 1756, and the large collection of his patron Joseph Smith was sold to King George III in 1762.
