Hodler's 1904 show at the Vienna Secession was his international breakthrough, and the Leopold Museum names him an important inspiration to Klimt, Moser and Schiele. Klimt had invited him to the first Secession exhibition in 1897.

Vienna Secession
Founded 3 April 1897 by Klimt (first president), Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann and Joseph Maria Olbrich. Klimt, Hoffmann and Moser resigned on 14 June 1905.
