Hilma af Klint

A Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings are among the first major abstract works in Western art, many made before Kandinsky, Malevich or Mondrian painted pure abstraction. Her diagram-like pictures gave form to spiritual ideas she explored with 'The Five', a circle of women inspired by Theosophy.
