Katsushika Hokusai

A Japanese painter and printmaker of the Edo period, and one of the great masters of ukiyo-e. He helped turn the genre from portraits of courtesans and actors toward landscapes, plants and animals, and his work strongly influenced Van Gogh and Monet during Europe's craze for Japanese art.
