Osman Hamdi Bey

An Ottoman administrator, archaeologist and painter, regarded as the founding father of archaeology, museums and fine-arts education in Turkey. He founded the Istanbul Archaeology Museums and the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts, and wrote laws to stop antiquities being smuggled abroad.
