Pieter Bruegel the Elder
The greatest Flemish painter of the 16th century, known for landscapes and lively scenes of peasant life. He was one of the first to make both the subject of large paintings, painted no portraits, and shaped Dutch Golden Age painting that followed.

Antwerp Guild of Saint Luke
The Antwerp painters' guild; membership as a master was required to take apprentices or sell paintings to the public in Antwerp. Bruegel entered it in 1551, de Heem in 1635 or 1636.
