Woman's Head with Roses

Created in 1899, Woman's Head with Roses comes from a formative moment in Koloman Moser's career. Two years earlier he had co-founded the Vienna Secession, and in the same year this work was made he began teaching decorative painting at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts. The MAK describes Moser as an unusually versatile artist whose work ranged across painting, graphic art, crafts, interiors, fashion, and stage design, helping make him a leading figure in Viennese Modernism. In 1903 he went on to co-found the Wiener Werkstätte, so this print predates that influential workshop by four years. The work is now held by the Art Institute of Chicago and is in the public domain.
