About this artwork
By Peder Mørk Mønsted
Rural Landscape is a 1925 work by the Danish painter Peder Mørk Mønsted. Mønsted was known above all for realist landscape painting and for a long career devoted to that subject. He began his artistic training in Aarhus and studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen between 1875 and 1879. He later studied with Peder Severin Krøyer and worked in the Paris studio of William-Adolphe Bouguereau. Those experiences helped shape the polished naturalist approach for which he became widely known. Mønsted travelled extensively, and his studies from those journeys supplied material for paintings shown at international exhibitions.
