Utagawa Kuniyoshi
A Japanese woodblock print artist who made his name with prints of legendary warriors, and also made landscapes using Western perspective. He trained a generation of printmakers, including Tsukioka Yoshitoshi.

Yoshitoshi was apprenticed to Kuniyoshi in 1850, aged 11, and received from him the art name 'Yoshitoshi' marking his place in the Utagawa school. He is now seen as Kuniyoshi's most important pupil and the last great master of ukiyo-e.
