The painting of the Republic of Venice, a major force in the Italian Renaissance from the Bellini family through Giorgione, Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese. It was known for putting colour before line, and after a decline in the 17th century it revived in the 18th with painters who enjoyed great success abroad.
