Henri Rivière
A Parisian artist and designer who created the celebrated shadow theatre at the Chat Noir cabaret in Montmartre. In 1888 he began collecting Japanese art and taught himself Japanese woodblock printing, making his own tools and inks. His colour prints of Brittany and of Paris brought the lessons of Japanese printmakers into French landscape.
