Abstract Art
Abstract art uses shape, form, colour and line with a degree of independence from anything seen in the world. Western painting had relied on perspective and the illusion of reality since the Renaissance; by the end of the 19th century many artists wanted a new kind of art to match changes in technology, science and philosophy.
