Hague School
A group of painters who lived and worked in The Hague from 1860 to around 1890, painting local landscapes, fishermen and farmers. Strongly influenced by the French Barbizon painters, they favoured sombre colours, which earned them the nickname the Grey School.

Dutch realist painters in The Hague, 1860-1890, influenced by the Barbizon school. Mauve, Jacob Maris and Gabriël are first generation; Breitner second. Van Gogh trained with Mauve but is not counted a member.
